Totals Features request
  • Totals is a great program. I had a Windows based program (K-Billing), but disliked running this in Parallels desktop on my Mac. The more I use Totals the more i like it. Keep up the good work.
    Totals would be even better for us if it had the following features:

    1) Some form of password protection plus encryption of database
    2) More report possibilities ie we use 2 types of client numbers (includes letters indicating location of appointment). It would be good to be able to do a variable report search on client numbers and other input data.
    3) Being able to change names of input fields (for example we use client date of birth in the phone field but would be good if we could change this to for example DOB.
    4) I notice that when entering items into the invoice, all items show as one long list. I then have to enter a search first to find relevant item which takes too much time. Would prefer to have access to the inventory directly when entering items into invoices so I can quickly drill down to what I need, rather than do a search.
    5) Have the occasional instability where Totals closes by itself. Can re-open no problem, but shouldn't do this. Usually happens when trying to enter data too quickly, or when updating templates.

    thank you for your post. I have filed feature requests for 1,2 and 4.
    3) You can add your own input fields, custom fields. They will appear in the custom tab.
    5) Do you get an error message? I'm really interested in fixing this problem.

  • Hi Ferhat Thanks for the response. Would love to see the enhancements.
    3) I would prefer to have custom fields on the first page (ie where you enter client name etc) so there is less clicking involved having to go to page 2 or 3 etc. or even easier just to rename one of the unused fields.
    5) No error. Totals just shuts itself down which then generates a generic Apple message asking if you want to send the error to Apple. After I restart, whatever I was working on did not save before and has to be re-entered (usually just one field).

    3) Good to know how you want to use Totals.
    5) Please choose 'Report' in the generic Apple message. This will open a new window with a bunch of log messages. Would be great if you can copy'n send it to me at fa@kedisoft.com.

    I experience this problem as well with the crashing of Totals at random times.
    I have created two different database files for two separate companies, I am so worried of loosing information I constantly back them up through out the day.

    I notice it always crashes if I have both databases open and hit the X (close) button after backing up, thinking I'm just closing that one database and it crashes and this is most likely when it has wiped the new data from the other database before I have saved the other file.

    However thinking I have been diligent with making sure I back up both before closing either file I still seemed to loose information, again today I could have sworn I backed up after entering three new quotes and when I went back in they are all gone.

    It sucks cause I have already sent them to the clients and now the document # they have is irrelevant as I have to re-enter the data. Good thing I have a copy in my out box, however I have lost all phone numbers as I only have the email and name that I can see in the sent document.

    Have you heard of this issue before? Any suggestions?

  • Hi Henry,

    we were about considering your second feature request (More report possibilities) and realized that this can already be handled by using smart folders. You can create a smart folder with a filter for client# (or what ever) and select the smart folder in the reports section. Is that what you need?
