I have a little problem with the Database Manager since my Update to 2.1. Every time I open Totals a Finder-Window opens and I can select a Database. This Finder-Window points to ~/Library/Application Support/Totals/Data. None of the Databases are shown in the Database Manager. Even if I create a new DB from within the Database Manager it is not shown there.
thank you for your question. Starting with 2.1 the Database Manager is now only a list of your recent documents, since 2.1 is now fully document based. This means you can double-click a database file to open it in Totals, just like you can do it with Pages documents for Pages and Numbers documents for Number . I suggest to re-download Totals from our website. We published two silent updates. One of them covers an issue that breaks down the restoring feature of recent documents when you quit the application.
thank you for your quick reply. I deleted and reinstalled Totals. After the reinstall I double-clicked my database file and it opened without problem in Totals. But every time I start the application and not the database file it asks me to create a new identity. I was used to start Totals and it opened directly my main database. Can I configure Totals to work like this again ?
it should actually not ask you every time for a database when you open Totals. It should open the recent one automatically. Please try to quit Totals without closing the main window to let Lion restore the last opened window automatically. If you still encounter the same kind of problem, please re-download Totals again. We published a silent updates 4 days ago.
oh, it's not a shame. We are working on making Totals able to sync with a cloud. Totals Remote was a good thing. But it works only on local networks, up to only 5 connections and the connections may never be broken. Syncing, on the other hand, will give you more flexibility, working without network will let you cache the changes, and opens the door to sync with an iPad app, which we will start to develop soon.
At this time, you can open and change a DB file from another mac. But concurrent access will override concurrent changes.
This is very interesting indeed. We have 7pc's running old java/oracle system that we built ourselves and multi-user connectivity is the backbone of our pricing and sales DB. We are currently in the process of moving our 2 designers over to mac and before our sales move over as well we need to find a good piece of software, mainly because I don't want to go through the hell of development again. Totals looks promising.
But, not sure about caching changes before they are applied, unless you are adding user permissions as well? I am curious to see how you go about caching and applying changes to the DB without it causing conflicts.
Do you have a roadmap for Totals2GO(?) or is this an exclusive heads up post?
Conflicts are in the nature of syncing. We don't try to avoid them. This is how it works. We plan to start with an iPad version of Totals right after Lumina 2. But we don't have a roadmap yet. So please don't see this as an official announcement. ~Ferhat
