AppShelf was the little surprise of MacHeist for all MacHeist fans as the end of the MacHeist 3 bundle promo.
If you have bought a bundle from MacHeist, you can now also download all your licenses in AppShelf import file format.

Yes, we have improved AppShelf for the MacHeist promo. Special thanks to Davin Lanham, who has designed the new cool icons for AppShelf
I want to add applications which are not installed to AppShelf as well, this is really a missing feature.
How do I add apps I have bought, but not yet installed? I’ve got the ones from MacHeist like that, but I’m importing all my old macheist stuff that’s vanished into the aether from the server.
Great app! Got it with macheist and it has turned out to be one of the most useful apps in the bundle.
I just want to say thanks for allowing AppShelf to be appended to the MacHeist bundle! It looks like it’ll be useful as I get used to it, and it evolves from the sudden influx of MH user demands…er, requests.
I currently use info.xhead to store all my software serals (a total of 601 of them, it tells me), but I like AppShelf’s more-visual interface. Looking forward to seeing where it goes!
Nice app but…
… am I missing something or you can’t add licenses to apps that are not installed?? When I click “Add” it opens up the Finder dialog to find the .app…
I have tons of apps that I purchased either individually or in bundles that I don’t have installed right now, but I’d still like to use AppShelf to manage those licenses (instead of having to do a -quick- search on my email to find them)…
That’s a pretty major “fail” if it’s really not possible…
First encounter with AppShelf trough MacHeist 3 bundle. Excellent app and with every update gets better!
Some users comment that it does not display applications icons. Actually, it seems that it does display icons of those apps that are in the Applications folder, and a generic icon for those that are not. This as an advantage, because you can instantly see if the app is installed. However, the ability to get the application icon imported anyway, via drag-n-drop (and display it somewhere in the ‘Info’ pane) would be a nice touch. Another nice addition would be the ability to customize the applications list - I would prefer to see just an apps list, i.e. more items, with smaller icons, and omit the ‘registered to’ subitem in the list - it doesn’t seem useful in a single user setup to see the same name repeated over and over trough the whole list
Ability to organize the apps list into folders… Well, I’m asking too much…
of course spotlight finds them.
they are installed in /Applications
(i’Ve installed the Licanes via macheists license file. If i drag an App (like Acorn) into AppShelf, i see the icon)
@mat - please make sure that your apps are founded by spotlight.
@Iggy - because we are frequently updating AppShelf and trying to add the feature requests from MacHeist users
BTW - MacHeist 3 bundle purchasers have a full license.
maybe this Konsole entry helps:
13.04.09 10:39:54 AppShelf[482] LSOpenFromURLSpec() returned -43 for application (null) path /Users/mat/Library/Application Support/AppShelf/vault/Acorn.app_files/Acorn.app.
that’s what happens, if i want to “launch” Acorn from Appshelf (it is installed in /Applications)
Looks like, it cannot find the apps.
btw:
/Users/mat/Library/Application Support/AppShelf/vault/Acorn.app_files/ is empty (as are all other folders in there)
It doesn’t display the icons. (german OSX 10.5.6)
Does anyone know why the MacHeist site has version 1.2mh, but when I download from kedisoft, I get version 1.5.2?
Also, I originally installed 1.2mh from the MacHeist site, and then it offered to automatically download an ‘update’. I did that, and installed it, but when I tried to run it I got the ‘unsupported on this architecture’ error. (I’m running OS X 10.5.6 on an Intel mac.)
I poked around and found 1.5.2 from kedisoft direct, and it’s working fine (with my MacHeist serial number).
Thanks!
Hi Joid,
AppShelf will display icons of applications on your hard drive only. I’m working on a more complex appshelf import file that can also import icons.
Unfortunately the 1.4 update still doesn’t show the icons. Maybe a language issue? I’m using a Dutch version of 10.5.6.
Thank you so much for AppShelf - it’s a great little helper!
Feature Suggestions:
1. When importing the MacHeist File I got all my data, but I get an empty icon placeholder. I would love to manually tell AppShelf where my app is so that I have an icon next to it. Just like when I manually add future apps.
2. The attach feature is great. But what is really need. An Export feature that “packs” me a complete AppShelf file including all Attachments so that I can save it to my iDisk in one single file for future installs/backup.
Best regards & keep up the good work.
Hi Josiah,
it is a full license
Question: Is the AppShelf version that was included in MacHeist a full version? Will it expire eventually? Will upgrades be free?
Thanks!
(great app so far)
I am a MacHeist bundle purchaser who just installed AppShelf. So far it is a great little application. But it needs a tweak or two before I can really take advantage of it.
Being able to import multiple items such as the MacHeist bundle is a great feature. However, items should not be linked to the APP file. I should be able to manually add an item even if its APP file does not exist. I want to use AppShelf to store all of my licensing details whether the application/game is installed or not. So let me manually add an item and title it whatever I want. And then I can associate an APP file with it if one exists. And I should be able to modify that associated APP file in the future if desired.
I hope to see this change implemented, and then I will be a fan!
It’d be really nice to be able to print out a copy of all my licenses via AppShelf, with the serial codes e.t.c.
