Frequently Asked Questions

What is Invoice 3?

Invoice is a full-featured invoice application for SOHO or business users. It has been designed from scratch to use the power and beauty of the Mac OS, while making life as easy as possible for its users. Since Invoice was designed purely for OSX, it is not simply a port from another platform, unable to take full advantage of the OSX operating system. Invoice uses it ALL.

What is Invoice 3 not?

Invoice is not a full featured complex merchandise software. Invoice is NOT for you, if you manage a big stock in multiple areas and want to use a software which should be able to connect to a central database server.

Who can use Invoice?

Invoice is used by photographers, art designers, web designers, consultants, teachers, musicians, e-commerce shops, doctors, programmers, freelancers and from many other branches.

What are the limitations of the free trial version?

There is absolutely no limitation except the 30 days for testing. After 30 days the application will not run anymore until you enter a serial number. Your data will not be deleted.

The free trial download IS the full version. You need only to purchase a serial number. There is no magic behind the order process. You just enter the serial number in order to use the application after 30 days trial. The are no locked features which will be unlocked after you have entered the serial number.

I have purchased Invoice but not received a retailed box yet

We do not ship Invoice in a retailed box. Please download the trial version and enter your serial number in order to use it.

How can I register the software?

You can go to our store and purchase a serial key from eSellerate. Then enter the serial number within the application. Go to the main menu and click the menu item "Registration ...".

Enter your full name and serial number into the text fields and click done. You are done!

You can find the full name and serial number on the invoice received by eSellerate.

Where is my data stored?

Each store (or database) is stored in a separate bundle. The first bundle is always named "Default.invoicestore" (hidden extension). All forthcoming bundles will have a unique name generated by the application.

The bundles are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Invoice3. However you can define another place in Stores.plist if you want. To do this, you have to quit Invoice 3 before you edit the file Stores.plist.

Don't forget to append the .invoicestore suffix to the path.

How can I backup my data?

It is sufficient to backup the store bundle which is described above. All your data like SQLite Database, PDF files, configuration files and layouts are store in this bundles.

I get the message "no pages from the document were selected to be printed"

Also please download and try the latest version. We have fixed an important bug.

Can you design a layout, like the attached one, for me?

No.

What is new in Invoice 3

First of all Invoice 3 is a complete rewrite of Invoice 2. Here is a short list of some new features

  • Partial payments
  • Inventory control
  • Margin calculation
  • Reminders
  • Watching for overdue invoices
  • Currency exchange support
  • Apple Script
  • Custom salutations
  • Multiple stores
  • New layout designer
  • Custom properties
  • PDF Export
  • Tab controls
  • And many more ...

Is Invoice 3 backward compatible with Invoice 2

Depends. You can import your data to Invoice 3. But you have to redesign your layout. I'm really sorry to do this to you, but the new layout engine has so many differences that it was not possible to import the existing layouts to Invoice 3.

Invoice 3 does not support time tracking. Don't be shocked. In a few weeks I will publish a little application which will replace the "Tasks" tab in Invoice 2. The tool will be free of charge for all existing Invoice 2 users. In the meantime you have to use Invoice 2.

There will also some alternatives available for time tracking because Invoice 3 is scriptable and has an open API for developers. There are some time tracking tools supporting Invoice 3 on the way.

How can I import my data from Invoice 2

This is very easy. Select "New Store From Invoice 2" from the action menu and your store will be imported to Invoice 3. You can edit the imported data without affecting the data in Invoice 2.

Your layouts and smart folders will not be imported to Invoice 3.

Is Invoice 3 really a free upgrade for Invoice 2 users?

It is a free upgrade if you purchased Invoice 2 from our website. If you never paid for Invoice 2 and using it from Mac magazine DVDs you have to pay the full price.

Why is Invoice 3 only available in English and German?

The only reason is our limited time. Other languages are coming soon.
